L3 MAPPS SECURES FOLLOW-ON ORDER TO UPGRADE NUCLEAR POWER STATION SIMULATOR IN NORTH CAROLINA
Montréal, July 20, 2005 - L-3 Communications MAPPS, a wholly owned subsidiary of L-3 Communications, announced today that it has been awarded a significant upgrade project to replace the majority of the nuclear power plant simulation models on the simulator operated by a large utility in North Carolina. The order is an extension to ongoing work that L3 MAPPS is carrying out to replace the simulator's electrical system models. The project has already started and the simulator is expected to take advantage of the improved models in early 2007.
While retaining the existing simulator's reactor and turbine control modeling, the new project will replace the majority of the remaining simulator systems, including the primary, containment, emergency core cooling and BOP process systems. Associated control logic will also be replaced. All of the new models will be developed with the ROSE® simulation environment, which has been employed by L3 MAPPS engineers for almost 15 years.
L3 MAPPS, which stands for Marine Automation and Power Plant Simulation, has over 20 years of experience in pioneering technological advances in the marine automation field and over 30 years of experience in delivering high-fidelity power plant simulation to leading utilities worldwide. L3 MAPPS also provides targeted controls and simulation solutions to the space sector.
