L-3 Communication's IEC Awarded Contract with Raytheon for Common Air Launched Navigation System (CALNS)

ANAHEIM, CA - March 20, 2002 Interstate Electronics Corporation (IEC) a wholly owned subsidiary of L-3 Communications Corporation (NYSE:LLL), announced it has been awarded a contract with Raytheon Missile and Space Division to design and develop a Common Air Launched Navigation System (CALNS). The contract also includes production options of approximately 3000 units. Full production of the CALNS is to be under way by late 2005. Under the terms of the contract, IEC will supply its TruTrakTM GPS receiver, Micro Sciras Integrated Measurement Unit (IMU) and a power supply to be combined into a small, tightly coupled navigation unit. The CALNS is designed to meet specifications for a variety of multiple air-launch platforms.

The TruTrak receiver features IEC's compact XFACTOR SAASM module, a highly integrated package that receives and manages the GPS satellite signals, requiring only antenna/pre-amplifier and navigation functions externally.

IEC's Micro Sciras MEMS-based IMUs can withstand the shock of 15,500 Gs when being fired from a 155-mm gun and provide three axis rate and acceleration data to guide a munition to its target. The micro IMU is designed for use in all systems requiring tactical-grade performance, including guided munitions, missiles, and GPS-aided navigation systems.

Editor's Notes
The IEC TruTrak module incorporates the latest SAASM technology to provide enhanced GPS security. SAASM is a tamper-resistant, multi-chip module that, when incorporated into a GPS receiver, gives authorized users access to the Department of Defense GPS Precise Positioning Service signal which is more robust than commercially available GPS signals. The IEC SAASM is fully qualified by the GPS Joint Program Office. The SAASM module is combined with the radio frequency (RF) down converter and I/O logic to form the complete GPS receiver.
