Constant Efficiency Amplifier (CEA)

The CEA 130T is a high-efficiency tube and circuit assembly capable of operating in the UHF-TV frequency range of 470 to 810 MHz. The amplifier is designed for digital transmitters requiring up to 30 kW average/130 KW peak output power in 8 VSB or COFDM digital service.

L3’s CEA 130 uses the same proven gun structure as the IOTD-130 which can provide average lifetimes in excess of 100,000 hours. A five-stage depressed collector replaces the standard single-stage collector of an IOT to achieve high efficiencies in digital service. Efficiencies greater than 55% have been demonstrated at various power levels with both 8 VSB and COFDM modulation schemes. This increase in efficiency means an immediate reduction in operating power consumed compared to traditional IOTs and a $20,000 savings per tube in average electricity costs per year.

Inductive Output Tubes (IOT)

The IOTD 130 IOT tube is designed for high-power, continuous operation at up to 30 kW average output power in 8 VSB or COFDM modulation schemes. It is a plug-in compatible replacement for all IOTs similar to the D2100/8505 and will fit in all L3 trolley systems. A ion getter pump is part of the tube assembly and requires 3 to 4 kV with respect to the heater for normal operation.

The IOTD 130D IOT is designed as a direct replacement for the e2v D2130. Minor modifications to the cooling hoses are required and all hardware necessary for the tube replacement is included with the product when it is shipped. The modifications can be installed in less than 1 hour using simple hand tools.
