Mission Optimization demands a flexible, modular architecture. L3 Sonoma EO selects industry-standard Cameralink or Gigabit Ethernet cameras, and delivers MISB-compliant H.264 or HD-SDI video formats. Transcoding from one format to another occurs in the Video Processing Unit (VPU) where additional image processing simultaneously occurs.

L3 Sonoma EO develops and implements advanced image processing algorithms. Workload reduction algorithms simplify operator tasking, such as Automated Video Trackers and multi-target trackers. Autofocus determines the maximum image quality signal and automatically focuses the lenses each sensor to reduces the need for operators input, especially useful for unmanned operations with lengthy inherent lag from the platform to the operator. Digital Zoom is useful to increase scene information.

Image quality algorithms such as Turbulence Mitigation and Super Resolution increase image clarity by reducing image noise induced by the atmosphere. Local Area Contrast Enhancement and Local Area Processing increase information through contrast management. Image blending integrates video sources from multiple video streams, highlighting the best information from each scene in a common display.
